The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented Medicare Severity DRGs (MS-DRGs) effective October 2007, resulting in a new claims process for hospitals receiving warranty or partial credit for devices, and an increased scrutiny of inpatient versus outpatient status. In this webcast, Kevin R. Wheelan, MD discusses these changes and how physician documentation is critical to appropriate coding and payment. Dr. Wheelan points out that MS-DRGs have a key impact specifically for admissions for cardiac rhythm management procedures. This presentation also covers mapping for Pacemaker and Defibrillator MS-DRGs and Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs).
Dr. Wheelan’s presentation was one of four segments of a Heart Rhythm 2008 session titled Reimbursement Issues for EP Specialists and Their Hospitals.
