Case Description
The patient was a 54 year-old woman who started experiencing episodes of palpitations and was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation one year ago. She suffered from daily episodes of rapid palpitations associated with shortness of breath, lasting up to 30-minutes in duration.
Flecainide and Propafenone both failed to supress these episodes. The patient was anticoagulated with Coumadin.
Additionally, the patient suffered from essential hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia. The patient's left ventricular systolic function was normal and the left atrial diameter by echo was measured at 4cm.
The procedure featured Pulmonary Vein Isolation (PVI) using the lasso technique and 3-D mapping.
