Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) — in August 2009, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) established its longstanding Women in Medicine program as a formal AAMC professional development group, replacing the former Women in Medicine (WIM) and Women Liaison Officers (WLO) network. The mission of the GWIMS is to advance the full and successful participation of women in all roles within academic medicine. The GWIMS serves as a national forum to advance women's success in medicine and science by addressing gender equity; recruitment and retention; awards and recognition and career advancement. GWIMS Resources:
Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) — HBA's mission is "to further the advancement and impact of women in healthcare worldwide," and works to accomplish this by providing educational opportunities to develop cutting-edge industry knowledge and leadership skills; recognizing outstanding women in the industry; providing opportunities for networking, creating greater visibility for individuals in the industry, and fostering mentoring relationships and serving as a conduit for research on career advancement issues. Members include more than 5,600 women and men from leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotech, healthcare products and managed care companies; publishers, advertising, medical education and communications agencies, and other service providers. The 2010 Leadership Conference takes place October 27-29 in Philadelphia, PA.
Simmons School of Management — The Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO) at Simmons serves as a leadership forum for scholars and executives determined to improve organizational effectiveness by strengthening gender equity and diversity in the workplace, with work in four dimensions: Action, Research Outreach and Membership. Simmons pioneered the women’s leadership conference concept in 1979 and holds on annually, where some of the world’s most accomplished women, including politicians, businesswomen, journalists, scientists and physicians, speak candidly about what they have learned on their journeys to success. Noted business, management, and lifestyle experts also offer practical workshops.
The American College of Cardiology has previously sponsored a Womens’ Career and Leadership Development Conference, a biennial program intended for early and mid-career female cardiologists interested in developing better leadership and career skills. The program format generally includes a reception and dinner program on Friday and lectures and workshops on Saturday.
