Selection Criteria
The selection criteria for FHRS membership is as follows:
1. Current membership in the Heart Rhythm Society for at least three years, and attendance at three Annual Scientific Sessions in the last five years.
2. Two sponsorship letters from current Society Fellows.
3. Prominence in cardiac electrophysiology organization, teaching, research and/or practice as defined by notable and continued involvement in at least three of the following five areas:
I. Evidence for support of the interests and welfare of the Heart Rhythm Society or of a particular aspect of the Society’s activities, for a minimum of three years, as demonstrated by one of the following:
a) promotion and facilitation of the goals of the Heart Rhythm Society (e.g., task force participation, committee membership, presentations, fostering links between the Heart Rhythm Society and other professional organizations)
b) evidence of leadership in advocacy for the profession and the Heart Rhythm Society (e.g., public representation, office holder, scientific session design)
II. Contributions to the profession through research, as demonstrated by:
a) research with multiple significant publications in peer-reviewed journals
b) a history of grant funding
c) development of innovations in EP therapy
d) development and or participation as EP Allied Professionals of clinical or basic science trials, having significant impact in the field of cardiac electrophysiology
III. Contributions to the profession through teaching and administration, as demonstrated by at least one of the following:
a) director of EP training program/EP lab and or Pacemaker/ICD Department
b) regional or national teaching awards in Cardiac Electrophysiology (need recommendations)
c) mentoring and teaching in the fields of cardiac electrophysiology (e.g., significant participation in a fellowship training program, training of PhD/postdoctoral students, development of curricula/text/chapters/monographs for EP education, organization and/or participation as a faculty in continuing medical education activities).
d) significant participation in the administration of departments, divisions or other organizations related to the fields of cardiac electrophysiology.
e) letters of recommendation from a program director of an EP teaching program confirming teaching commitment and excellence
f) compilation of a list of participation in local, regional, or institutional educational programs
IV. Contributions to the body of knowledge and/or practice of cardiac electrophysiology, as demonstrated by one or more of the following:
a) clinical innovation through development or promotion of guidelines, management protocols, procedures, equipment or techniques,
b) organization of clinical data into a database useful for education and/or research
c) participation in clinical research and trials
d) development of EP program and or participation as EP Allied Professional
V. ABIM board certification in Electrophysiology and/or its equivalent (e.g. – board certification in Pediatric Cardiology plus the IBHRE Exam (formerly NASPExAM). Allied Professionals must have passed the IBHRE Exam (formerly NASPExAM) in cardiac pacing or cardiac electrophysiology/AP or NASPExAM AP/EP.

Fellow are expected to:
- Promote the Heart Rhythm Society and advocate on its behalf
- Act as mentor to other members
- Provide advice to the Heart Rhythm Society on matters related to the field of cardiac arrhythmias
- Conduct research and consultations on behalf of the Heart Rhythm Society as needed
- Contribute to the activities of the Heart Rhythm Society

To apply for advancement to Fellow membership, please forward a completed FHRS application packet to the Society. A completed FHRS application packet includes:
- A completed Fellow application
- Documentation of notable and continued involvement in at least three of five areas (see application for details)
- A current copy of your curriculum vitae
- Two (2) letters of Sponsorship from current FHRS members

Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing of completed application packets. Members will be invoiced for Fellowship at the time of their membership renewal period. Please do NOT forward payment with the application packet.

| (A) | Fellow Physician — The candidate shall be a physician or physician-scientist who has completed training and is in good standing with an earned academic degree (MD or equivalent). Specialty Board Certification is encouraged. |
| (B) | Fellow Scientist — The candidate shall be a scientist who is in good standing and has earned an academic degree that reflects his/her scientific training (e.g., MD, PhD, EngScD) and holds a faculty position or the equivalent in an academic institution. |
| (C) | Fellow Allied Health Professional — The candidate shall be actively involved with the technical aspect of pacemaker/ICD, or the performance of electrophysiologic techniques. The candidate shall be affiliated with an academic institution/clinical practice setting or equivalent. |

Note: Membership dues for the Heart Rhythm Society are set annually by the
Board of Trustees.
