Daniel P. Morin, MD, MPH, FHRS
Dr. Daniel Morin was recently inducted as a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and is currently serving on the Society's Education Committee.

How long have you been a member of the Heart Rhythm Society?

I’ve been a Society member since the beginning of my EP fellowship, starting in 2006.

My Society is...

the leading voice regarding the prevention and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. No group is more active than the Heart Rhythm Society in terms of advocacy, education, and forward thinking regarding disorders of heart rhythm.

Why did you choose the field of electrophysiology?

As an internal medicine resident at Tufts Medical Center, I discovered that the patients with whom I most enjoyed interacting were those who were most in need of our care: those in the ICU and CCU. This, combined with my own father’s sudden death at a young age, made cardiology of particular interest. The more I learned about electrophysiology, the more I found it to be fascinating. I went into my cardiology fellowship hoping that EP could be my eventual career path, and I was fortunate enough to have that dream come true.

How has membership in the Society been of value to you and your practice?

Membership in the Society has allowed me and my practice to remain connected with both the national and global profession of electrophysiology. Our physicians and allied professionals keep up to date with the rapidly changing field of EP in part through participation in Society educational offerings, including the always-excellent yearly Scientific Sessions, and through reading the Society’s official journal, HeartRhythm. My own active involvement in the Society not only has made it easier for me to learn the latest and greatest in EP, but has also afforded me the chance to help shape Society policy.

Please list a few of your most recent accomplishments.

  • Appointed Director of Electrophysiology Research at the Ochsner Medical Center
  • Inducted as a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society, which was a great honor, at Heart Rhythm 2010
  • Serving on multiple Society committees, subcommittees, and task forces, including the Education Committee and the Strategic Planning Task Force
  • Appeared on a series of regional television news broadcasts, educating the public on issues related to heart rhythm disorders
  • Directing an ongoing series of conferences entitled “Electrophysiology for the General Cardiologist," which aims to make the sometimes arcane field of EP more understandable to cardiology fellows, practicing general cardiologists, and allied professionals
