February 23, 2012 — “Society Featured In Cardiovascular Health Report,” published by Mediaplanet
The Heart Rhythm Society was featured in a special cardiovascular health report, which was distributed to 1.3 million readers in the cities with the highest occurrences of heart disease via USA Today. Society President Bruce L. Wilkoff, MD, FHRS, CCDS contributed an article that explained the characteristics, symptoms and risk factors associated with atrial fibrillation. The Society also shared five ways that the public could help to save a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.

Society President Bruce L. Wilkoff, MD, FHRS, CCDS is quoted in this article, which states that the domestic market for ICDs slumped an estimated 14% to 15% in the final three months of 2011, according to Bernstein Research, and is projected to be down 11% in 2011 to $3.73 billion.

Article describes common therapies for heart rhythm disorders and notes study results published in the HeartRhythm Journal, which found that ablation procedures were as successful at controlling Afib in both thin and heavy people, but those who were obese and overweight showed increased vitality and less anxiety after the procedure.
