AMA 2010 House of Delegates Interim Meeting

The American Medical Association (AMA) held its 2010 House of Delegates Interim Meeting 2010 House of Delegates Interim Meeting on November 6-9 in San Diego, CA. Kathy Blake, MD, FHRS and Jodie Hurwitz, MD, FHRS represented the Heart Rhythm Society in the House of Delegates, the cardiovascular council and the Specialty Society Section.

The AMA House of Delegates discussed policies on modifying the health care reform law, devising a permanent fix to Medicare payment restructuring under the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), and addressing the implications of new health care delivery models such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and private contracting.

With the support of the Obama administration, and in addition to advocating for a permanent fix, AMA is pushing for a temporary, 13-month extension of the current pay rate. The AMA will recommend continued study of the impact of ACOs on medical practice.

The House of Delegates also debated the AMA's position on federal mandates for individuals to purchase health insurance coverage and the AMA's role to promote transparency to stimulate improved quality.

Visit the AMA website for complete information, video highlights, and downloadable resources such as agenda and guidelines.
