CMS Finalizes 2011 Hospital Outpatient and ASCs Payment Rates (11/24/2010) — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released a final rule that would update the policies and payment rates for services furnished in hospital outpatient departments and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in calendar year 2011. The final rule will be published in the Federal Register on November 24; comments will be accepted until January 3, 2011. The Society's Health Policy staff have reviewed the final rule for highlights affecting heart rhythm services.Learn more »

Society Comments on the Hospital OPPS Proposed Rule for 2011 (09/08/2010) The Heart Rhythm Society has submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on the 2011 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) proposed rule. The comments focused on two aspects of interest to Society members: composite APC's for cardiac resynchronization therapy services and the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Program. Learn more »

CMS Proposes Payment Rates for Hospital Outpatient Departments and Ambulatory Surgical Centers in 2011 (07/16/2010) — On Friday, July 2 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule that will update the policies and payment rates for services furnished in hospital outpatient departments and ambulatory surgery centers beginning in 2011. This rule, when made final, will also implement applicable statutory requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Changes to the Hospital Outcome Quality Data Reporting Program (07/16/2010) In addition to addressing significant payment issues, the FY 2011 Outpatient Prospective Payment System proposed rule referenced above seeks to promote higher quality and more efficient care for Medicare beneficiares by adopting improvements to the Hospital Outcome Quality Data Reporting Program, which makes data about the quality of outpatient hospital care publicly available. 2010 OPPS/ASC Final Rule Highlights (12/11/2009) — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final rule updating the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) payment system for Calendar Year (CY) 2010. The rule was published in the Federal Register on October 30. Most payment rates that affect heart rhythm procedures increased from 2009 payment rates. Heart Rhythm Society Responds to 2009 Rules (09/10/2008) — On August 29, 2008 the Society submitted comments to the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in response to the "Medicare Program; Revisions to Payment Policies Under the Physician Fee Schedule and Other Revisions to Part B for CY 2009; and Revisions to the Amendment of the E-Prescribing Exemption for Computer Generated Facsimile Transmissions; Proposed Rule" published in the Federal Register on July 7, 2008. In addition, the Society submitted a second comment letter on September 3 to CMS regarding its "Proposed Changes to the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and CY 2009 Payment Rates; Proposed Changes to the Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System and CY 2009 Payment Rates," which was published in the Federal Register on July 9, 2008.
