The Heart Rhythm Society, joined the Alliance for Aging Research and the American Heart Association in co-sponsoring a Capitol Hill briefing and luncheon on heart disease, "Slaying the Medicare Dragons: The Promise of Innovation." The panel featured speakers on the economics of cardiovascular disease, as well as the importance of research and early detection. Presenters included Jim Greenwood, President and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, Raymond J. Gibbons, MD, President of the American Heart Association and Judd Rupp, a Sudden Cardiac Arrest survivor, who is now benefiting from an ICD. Both Congressional staffers and representatives from the medical community attended this educational event, showcasing the successes and opportunities in medical research and application.
