The Society's leadership role in arrhythmia research is strongly supported by its members: in a recent membership survey, nearly 80 percent of respondents endorsed the Society's efforts to advocate and develop research in cardiac electrophysiology and more than 70 percent agreed that the Society should play a prominent role in coordinating and designating research funding for heart rhythm disorders.

More than 14 million Americans are currently living with heart rhythm disorders, the primary cause of heart disease-related disability and death. The Heart Rhythm Society has positioned itself to be the preeminent organization for promoting research to end death and suffering from heart rhythm disorders. Our objectives, guided by the Strategic Plan, are to:

  • Enhance the society's strategic research agenda.
  • Increase funding to support the society's research agenda
  • Increase the leadership, presence and visibility of heart rhythm researchers within the Society
  • Increase support for rigorous outcome studies evaluating benefits of emerging technologies and clinical practices

Since the January 2009 adoption of the strategic plan there have been numerous discussions relative to the Society's research role and commitment. With the efforts of two Research Task Forces, the initiative has moved forward. Already great strides have been made, but the opportunities are still vast and exciting!
